When the time comes, many owners prefer to have their pet euthanased in the comfort of their own home. This is often a very sad time for owners and their family and we endeavour to make the process as smooth as possible for you and your pet.
When you have an appointment with us for home euthanasia, we arrange for a nurse to also attend to assist the vet. The main role of the nurse is to assist in making the vein accessible for the injection. The injection is an overdose of an anaesthetic and normally goes into the front leg. Once the injection is given your pet will ‘fall asleep’ in seconds and their heart will stop. On rare occasions, your pet may need sedation beforehand to facilitate the injection. If you think your pet may require sedation, it would be helpful if you could let us know when you make the appointment.
We can also arrange cremation or burial of your pet through Lawnswood.
Costs of home euthanasia vary depending on your location, the size of your pet and whether you require cremation or burial services.
Our nurses are trained to deal with this process with compassion. If you would like to discuss the process further or would like an appointment for home euthanasia, please contact one of our nurses on 0419 968 337 or 9243 0688.
